Oral Sedation

The Smiler Center for Dental Excellence offers oral sedation for patients who have extreme anxiety about visiting the dentist, or whose procedures may warrant the use of such medications.  Throughout the procedure the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation are measured.

With oral sedation, you may be sleepy but you can be aroused if necessary and can respond to simple commands. Minor side effects such as nausea or vomiting can occur with some medications.

Before a visit in which you are to receive oral sedation, you will receive instructions about eating and drinking, what to expect and what to watch for after treatment. You will also need to stay for a short time after your dental treatment has been completed so you can be observed for full recovery and possible complications.
